The Ministry of Labor, in order to prevent and mitigate workplace accidents, issued Circular No. 12 of 2024 to combat from the Occupational Safety and Health System, taking as reference Decree 037 of 2024, by which the National Government issued the administrative act that made official the national disaster due to forest fires throughout the national territory and the climatic situation due to the scarcity of rains, high temperatures, and exposure to UV rays, in order to mitigate the effects that may be caused by the El Niño phenomenon.
Thus, it becomes necessary to activate the OSH of companies, to employ promotion and prevention actions to protect workers' health, implementing actions that safeguard the worker's health, such as:
| Action | Recommendation |
| Avoid worker exposure when the highest temperatures are reported | -Install hydration points with fresh, continuous drinking water, as well as ventilation. |
| Avoid sun exposure | -It is recommended to reduce the worker's physical effort when temperature peaks are reported. -Shorten work schedules while the temperature drops. -Implementation of sunscreen. |
| Avoid spaces where vapors and smoke are emitted | -The use of face masks is recommended. |
The above scheme illustrates some of the situations that arise within the framework of the El Niño phenomenon, followed by the necessary recommendations that each company's OSH must implement, in order to identify hazards and act preventively against emergencies that may affect workers' health. It is important that each company, according to its business model and core activity, can structure contingency plans that promote the preservation of the health of its employees, taking as a framework the day-to-day development of its operations, managing to determine the risks to which its personnel are exposed, making the respective necessary adjustments to guarantee the healthiness of workplaces, whether by installing ventilation points, or by providing workers with fresh drinking water and sunscreen.
