The fundamental right to a good name, enshrined in Article 15 of the Political Constitution of Colombia, may be affected by journalistic publications, comments on social media, or in many other ways; however, it is essential to know that citizens have tools to request a media outlet, whether it be a newspaper's website or one of the many social networks, solutions to enforce that right.

According to ruling 277 of 2015 by the Constitutional Court, in the event that a journalistic publication affects your good name, you may first request a correction from the media outlet involved. After doing so, if the media outlet has not made any correction, or if you do not consider that your right has been redressed, you may file a tutela action.
Through this tutela action, you may request that the journalistic publication be updated with the correction, but through tutela you cannot demand that information be deleted; you can only request that such publication cease to appear in search engines like Google, since demanding this would constitute a violation of freedom of expression.
According to a ruling by the Administrative Court of Cundinamarca, in the case where the right to a good name is not violated by a media outlet but by an individual who creates a fake profile on social media to launch insults, slander, defamation, among others, you may resort to the protection of a tutela action because there is no other legal mechanism to protect these affected rights, as stated by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies.

It is essential to emphasize that in this case, where there are not erroneous pieces of information or opinions, but rather true insults that directly affect the honor and good name of the victim, the judicial officer may order the social network to delete the profile in question and remove from the social network all comments and information issued from that profile.
